Imported Recycled Fiber Cradles from Rollguard® Deliver Roll-Protection Savings of 40 Percent to Nitto Europe

APPLETON, Wis., August 16, 2011 — As the world's leading supplier of protective packaging systems for rolled and cylindrical products, Rollguard®, based in Appleton, Wis., has developed expertise in serving the converting industry not only in North America but also in Europe.

Rollguard, part of Great Northern Corporation's Specialty Group, will showcase its full line of roll cradles at ICE Europe 2011, Nov. 8-10, in Munich. Rollguard will be exhibiting in Hall B5, Stand 890, in the Munich Trade Fair Centre.

Rollguard's products and its ability to provide high-level customer service to overseas clients are attracting customers such as Nitto Europe, which makes specialty films and tapes in Genk, Belgium, and ships them globally. Using Rollguard's recycled fiber cradles, Nitto Europe has seen a 40-percent savings over previous protection systems, better product protection, and the added value of a packaging product that is 100-percent recyclable.

Nitto Europe had been shipping its rolls of film and tapes using blocks of wood with cradles cut to match the diameter of the rolls. But stacking two or three pallets could produce enough weight to cause the blocks to crush the cores in the rolls, said Danny Timmermans, Purchasing and Logistics Packaging Specialist for Nitto Europe.

Searching for a solution, Timmermans found Rollguard on the Internet and ordered samples of the recycled fiber roll cradles. Rollguard created customized roll cradles to meet the specific needs of Timmerman, who replaced the wood blocks with Rollguard's recycled fiber roll cradles in February, 2010. Today, Nitto Europe is using three custom sizes of recycled fiber roll cradles in configurations that allow three, four or five rolls per layer.

Even with the cost of long-distance shipping, Rollguard's cradles deliver 40-percent savings over the wooden blocks, Timmermans said. "Forty percent. That's significant."

Rollguard's experience in exporting its cradles and in working with overseas customers has proved valuable to Nitto Europe and other international clients.
