Roll cradles vs. pyramiding: comparison of packaging methods for rolled and cylindrical products.

	Using roll cradles can offer many advantages when compared with the traditional pyramiding method (stacking rolls on their sides in a pyramid formation on pallets). Roll cradles can more than triple cubic space utilization, depending on the products’ diameters. This is because roll cradles enable cylindrical products to be stacked in a cube formation, so more rolls can be stacked per pallet. Roll cradles also enable the stacking of pallets, providing freight and space savings. The use of roll cradles can offer savings on packaging material usage over pyramiding, too, because there is no need to band each individual roll to hold it in place on the pallet.
